I will be giving a continuing education presentation to a group of doctors next Thursday at the Intercontinental on the Plaza.  I am struggling with what is appropriate to wear taking into account the season, the event and its location.  I'm thinking a suit, but the only suit jacket I own is obviously for winter (black and cream houndstooth type pattern).  Any suggestions and places to go for something inexpensive are greatly appreciated!

I would invest in a black suit. They're always appropriate and you can have fun with cami's, shoes and jewelry. I love the suits at Express but I wouldn't say they were cheap. I think Marshall's has some from time to time.

I buy all of my suits on clearance at Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor loft.  I would invest in a black suit.

For something cheap and quickly, check out the Ann Taylor outlet in the Legends, then the Plaza location's sale rack.  I've had great luck at both places!

Skirt or pant suit?  And it seems the consensus is black?

I vote suit with a skirt.  If you don't want to do black you can also do grey.

I vote you should wear a skirt suit, but I would recommend you buy both the skirt and pants to match the jacket if you can find one that has three pieces you like.

Just make sure you get all three pieces dry cleaned together everytime to prevent uneven wear & tear!

I'd go with skirt suit, but agree with TIA on getting all three pieces.

Thanks for the advice!  You all verified what I was thinking.  And great idea on getting everything cleaned at the same time, I wouldn't have thought of that!

Black.  I like JC Penny because they are reasonable and have a lot of washable suiting pieces.

Yes, the Worthington line is great and you can get all 3 pieces to match.
